Barry is a business lawyer, active in general business law, with a focus on finance and restructuring. These three practice areas enhance one another.
Throughout his career, he has advised business owners and managers in respect of their transactions, operations, legal concerns and their objectives, taking the time to understand their businesses and frequently acting as a "trusted business advisor". He has prepared and settled commercial documents of many sorts and acted as the "point person" in matters calling for different levels of experience and different areas of expertise.
He has acted for creditors and debtors in virtually all types of financings (including operating facilities, equipment finance, subordinated debt, asset-based lending, domestic and cross-border), acting frequently for financial institutions.
In the restructuring/insolvency context, Barry has worked with a range of clients including lenders, insolvency professionals, other creditors (such as suppliers) and debtors.
Barry offers solutions not just problems and focuses on goals not just process. His goal is to provide advice, service and communication as he would expect as a client himself.
Over his career, Barry has written and spoken frequently, directed at various audiences including lenders, lawyers and other professionals. His most recent publication, "Is Equity a Crime? Equity as Interest under Section 347 of the Criminal Code" was published in the Banking & Finance Law Review. (See www.mondaq.com ).
Barry is a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, which is comprised of lawyers, jurists and academics who are regarded as pre-eminent in their field. Admission to the College is by invitation only.
He also holds a BV® Distinguished™ lawyer's rating from Martindale-Hubbell, awarded to legal professionals in recognition of high to very high legal ability, as established by confidential opinions from other lawyers.
